Snapping Glory! Nepal’s cricket scene is buzzing with pride as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) clinches the ICC Digital Fan Engagement of the Year award for the second year in a row! This global honor, awarded at the ICC Annual Conference in Singapore, celebrates Nepal’s vibrant digital presence, reaching 117 million fans across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The secret? A passionate fanbase and creative storytelling that brings cricket to life.
At the heart of this success is Sajan Lamichhane, CAN’s official photographer. His lens captures more than just games—it freezes raw emotions, from roaring crowds to players’ triumphs. His iconic shot of the Nepal flag waving amidst umbrellas went viral, touching hearts worldwide. Sajan’s work transforms moments into stories, showcasing Nepal’s love for cricket on a global stage.
The CAN team, with Sajan’s visuals, has grown its digital reach massively. Facebook views doubled to 13.4 million minutes, while YouTube watch time soared by 277% to 2.13 million hours. Instagram hit 40 million views with highlights and fan stories. This award reflects the hard work of many, but Sajan’s ability to capture the spirit of Nepali cricket has been key.
From a young dreamer inspired by tourists’ cameras to a 23-year-old photojournalist, Sajan’s journey is inspiring. His dedication earned him the Commitment Award from Nepal’s coach in 2023. Whether sprinting along the boundary or framing a perfect shot, Sajan’s photography tells the world why Nepal’s cricket fans are unmatched. This ICC award is a salute to their passion and his artistry.
