10 People lost their lives in Victory Rally?
What started as a day of celebration quickly turned into one of shock and heartbreak in Bengaluru. Thousands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans had gathered outside the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate the team’s historic Indian Premier League (IPL) victory. It was RCB’s first-ever IPL win, and the excitement was electric.
Fans wearing red and black, waving flags, singing team chants, and dancing in joy packed the streets around the stadium. Everyone wanted to be part of the moment. The players were expected to arrive in an open-bus parade to greet the crowd and share the joy.
However, as the crowd swelled beyond safe limits, chaos erupted. Overcrowding and poor crowd control turned the celebration into a nightmare. According to eyewitnesses, a sudden push in the crowd caused panic. People began falling, and before help could arrive, many were trapped under a wave of bodies.
Police and emergency teams tried to restore order and rescue those injured. But by the time the situation was brought under control, ten young lives had been lost. Dozens more were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from minor bruises to serious fractures.
The atmosphere that was once filled with cheers, music, and fireworks turned silent. Shocked fans, some in tears, watched as ambulances arrived. Many of the victims were students and young professionals who had come with friends to be part of RCB’s proudest moment.
Questions are now being raised about crowd management and safety arrangements. Local authorities had expected large gatherings, but the turnout far exceeded estimates. Many fans had climbed barriers and lampposts to get a better view, further adding to the instability of the area.
RCB officials and players expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. The franchise issued a statement mourning the lives lost and promised to support the families of the victims. The team captain also took to social media, calling the incident heartbreaking and urging fans to stay safe.
This incident has left the city in mourning. The same fans who had painted the town red with joy now lit candles in memory of those who died. Shops near the stadium closed in respect, and floral tributes lined the gates of Chinnaswamy Stadium.
While RCB’s IPL victory remains a proud moment for Bengaluru, the painful memory of this tragic rally will stay etched in the hearts of fans forever.
