In a tragic incident near the Nepal-India border, a 36-year-old man was fatally shot during a police operation aimed at stopping drug smuggling. The event took place in Rajgadh-2, a village close to the border. The Nepal Police stated that they acted in self-defense after locals attacked them with stones during a search operation.
According to authorities, the police operation was launched based on a tip-off about drug smuggling in the area. When officers arrived to investigate, they faced resistance from a group of locals who began throwing stones. To protect themselves, the police opened fire, resulting in the death of the 36-year-old man. The police expressed regret over the loss of life but emphasized that their actions were necessary to maintain safety.
During the operation, the Nepal Police seized 80 kilograms of narcotics from the site, a significant haul that highlights the scale of drug smuggling in the region. The seized drugs are believed to have been intended for illegal transport across the Nepal-India border, where smuggling activities have been a growing concern.
The Nepal Police explained that the Rajgadh-2 area is known for illegal activities due to its proximity to the open border with India. Smugglers often take advantage of the porous border to move drugs, alcohol, and other contraband. This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in controlling drug smuggling in border areas.
Local authorities have called for calm and are investigating the incident to ensure all details are clear. The Nepal Police are working to identify those involved in the drug smuggling operation and prevent further incidents. They have also urged the community to cooperate with law enforcement to keep the area safe.
This crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to stop drug smuggling and protect communities along the Nepal-India border. The police are committed to taking strong action against illegal activities to ensure safety and security for everyone in the region.
