Frustrated and fed up, Nepal’s football team head coach has spoken out about the All-Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and its impact on players. The coach revealed he might not return to Nepal if the organization continues its current approach. During a recent match, players were so stressed that they hesitated to take penalties, a critical moment in the game. The coach pointed out that this lack of confidence stems from poor management and a lack of support.
The situation worsened when the Prime Minister made a video call to the team before the match. While meant to inspire, it added unwanted pressure on the players. The coach compared this to the Uzbekistan team, which confirmed their president did not make similar calls. In Uzbekistan, players felt free to focus on the game without external expectations. Nepal’s players, however, faced mental strain that affected their performance.
The coach also highlighted the absence of motivation for the team. A small reward or early recognition could have boosted player morale, but ANFA failed to provide this. Instead, players had to wait until the final match for any acknowledgment, leaving them feeling undervalued. The coach believes timely encouragement could have made a difference in their performance.
This situation raises questions about ANFA’s leadership and its ability to support the national team. The coach’s frustration reflects deeper issues in Nepal’s sports system, where players lack the backing they need to succeed. Without changes, Nepal risks losing not only talent but also the passion that drives its football dreams.
