Get ready for a thrilling clash! The ACC U-16 East Zone Cup 2025 final is here, and Nepal U-16 is set to battle Singapore U-16 this Saturday at the YSD UKM Oval in Bangi, Malaysia. Nepal, the defending champions, have been unstoppable, storming into the final with a commanding 9-wicket victory over hosts Malaysia. Singapore, not far behind, secured its spot by defeating Hong Kong by 4 wickets in the semifinals. This match promises to be an exciting rematch, as Nepal already defeated Singapore by 6 wickets in their group-stage encounter. Let’s dive into what makes this final a must-watch!
Nepal’s journey to the final has been nothing short of spectacular. The Young Rhinos, as they’re called, have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, showcasing their dominance in Group A. Their semifinal performance against Malaysia was a masterclass in cricket. After choosing to bowl first, Nepal’s bowlers, led by Abhay Yadav, restricted Malaysia to a mere 90 runs in 43.1 overs. Yadav’s fiery spell of 4 wickets for 15 runs was backed by Shubham Khanal, who claimed 3 wickets with an equally tight economy. This disciplined bowling set the stage for Nepal’s batters to shine. Parimarjan Yadav, the opener, smashed an unbeaten 59 runs off just 35 balls, including five fours and five sixes, sealing the chase in only 11.4 overs. Shiwansh Bajgain supported with a steady 23 not out, ensuring Nepal lost just one wicket. This performance underlines why Nepal is the team to beat.
Singapore, however, is no pushover. As Group A runners-up, they’ve shown resilience and skill to reach the final. Their semifinal win over Hong Kong was a testament to their fighting spirit. Chasing 169 runs, Singapore completed the task in 38.5 overs, losing six wickets. Key contributions came from their top order, with Riaan Naik, the captain, leading from the front. Singapore’s earlier clash with Nepal in the group stage saw them post 138 runs, thanks to Naik’s 53 runs and Aahan Vuthandam’s quick 38. But Nepal’s bowlers, especially Bipin Prasad Sharma, who took four wickets, proved too strong. Singapore will need to bring their A-game to counter Nepal’s formidable bowling attack and upset the defending champions in the final.
The group-stage match between these two teams gives us a hint of what to expect. Nepal chased down Singapore’s 139-run target in 33.3 overs, losing four wickets. Prashiddha Jaishi was the star, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 55 runs off 97 balls. His composed batting, paired with Raunak Srivastav’s fluent 40 runs, laid the foundation for the victory. Singapore’s bowler Akash Teja tried to fight back, taking three wickets, but it wasn’t enough to stop Nepal’s momentum. This time, Singapore will look to tighten their bowling and exploit any early weaknesses in Nepal’s batting lineup. The final will test their ability to handle pressure against a team that’s been relentless.
Nepal’s batting strength lies in their explosive openers and solid middle order. Parimarjan Yadav has been a standout, with his aggressive 71 runs off 28 balls against Indonesia, including eight sixes, setting the tone for Nepal’s massive 420-run total in that match. Prashiddha Jaishi, with a brilliant 132 runs against Indonesia, has been the backbone of the batting unit. His ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed makes him a key player. Raunak Srivastav and Joy Thapa, with scores of 88 and 57 respectively in the same game, add depth to the lineup. Nepal’s strategy will likely revolve around setting or chasing a big total, relying on their batters to overpower Singapore’s bowling.
On the bowling front, Nepal has been clinical. Bipin Prasad Sharma, the captain, has led by example, with a stunning six-wicket haul against Indonesia, conceding just 12 runs. Abhay Yadav and Shubham Khanal have consistently chipped in with crucial wickets, making Nepal’s attack versatile and dangerous. Their ability to bowl tight lines and exploit weaknesses has been a game-changer. Singapore, meanwhile, will rely on bowlers like Akash Teja and Yuvaan Pandey to challenge Nepal’s batters early. Singapore’s batting will hinge on Riaan Naik and Aahan Vuthandam, who need to build a solid foundation to counter Nepal’s relentless bowlers.
The YSD UKM Oval has been a batting-friendly pitch, but Nepal’s bowlers have shown they can make it tough for opponents. The final’s outcome may depend on how well Singapore handles Nepal’s bowling pressure and whether they can post or chase a competitive total. Nepal, as defending champions, carry the weight of expectation, but their unbeaten run gives them confidence. Singapore, playing as underdogs, has the chance to pull off an upset and claim the title. The clash will showcase the best of youth cricket, with both teams hungry for glory.
This final is more than just a game—it’s a battle of skill, strategy, and determination. Nepal’s unbeaten streak and dominant performances make them the favorites, but Singapore’s grit and potential to surprise can’t be underestimated. Fans can expect a thrilling contest as these young talents fight for the ACC U-16 East Zone Cup title.
