With just months to go before the much-anticipated second season of the Siddhartha Bank Nepal Premier League (SBL NPL) kicks off, Pokhara Avengers have already made headlines by announcing their retained squad for NPL 2025.
After a mixed performance in the inaugural season, the franchise from the beautiful city of Pokhara is coming back stronger, more determined, and sharper than ever. The management has put its faith in seven powerful players, forming the core of a squad that blends youth, experience, and skill.
The Retained Core – 7 Players Set to Soar
The Avengers have chosen to retain these 7 players who will be the foundation of their team for the upcoming season
Kushal Bhurtel – The Aggressive Opener
Kushal Bhurtel, known for his explosive batting at the top of the order, is undoubtedly the biggest name on this list. A reliable match-winner, he can turn games within a few overs. With international experience and big-hitting ability, he is expected to lead the charge and provide solid starts for the Avengers.
Sagar Dhakal – The Left-Arm Spinner
Young and talented, Sagar Dhakal impressed fans and critics with his tight bowling in the previous season. His variations and control make him a threat on spin-friendly pitches, and his retention is a smart move by the team. Dhakal can also chip in with handy runs down the order.
Akash Chand – The Fast-Bowling Weapon
A rising star in the domestic cricket scene, Akash Chand brings pace and aggression to the Avengers' bowling lineup. His fiery spells and ability to pick wickets at crucial moments make him a valuable asset. Expect Akash to be the go-to man during powerplays and death overs.
Kiran Thagunna – The Reliable All-Rounder
Kiran Thagunna is a true team player. With the ability to swing the ball and contribute with the bat, his all-round performance adds depth and balance to the team. His presence strengthens both the middle order and the bowling attack.
Bipin Khatri – The Silent Performer
While he may not be the loudest name in the room, Bipin Khatri gets the job done. A consistent performer with the ball and a handy fielder, Bipin is a player who brings discipline and control, especially in pressure situations.
Dinesh Kharel – The Young Gun
Still new to the scene, Dinesh Kharel has already shown glimpses of his potential. His hunger to perform and learn makes him an exciting player to watch in NPL 2025. The Avengers’ management sees long-term promise in him.
Trit Raj Das – The Finisher in the Making
A middle-order batsman with a reputation for big hits, Trit Raj Das can take the game away from the opposition in the final overs. Known for his calm head under pressure, he is being groomed into a finisher, a role that is crucial in T20 cricket.
Why This Retention Matters
These seven retained players form a well-rounded unit. The Avengers have covered all departments – explosive batting, spin, pace, all-rounders, and finishers. This move reflects a clear strategy: build a core team with players who have already proven their worth and understand the dynamics of playing together.
With player auctions or drafts expected soon, the Pokhara Avengers now have a solid foundation to build the rest of the squad around. New foreign signings, young domestic talent, and strategic picks will fill the remaining gaps.
Building a Winning Culture
The retention announcement also sends a strong message – the Avengers believe in consistency and team bonding. By retaining familiar faces, they aim to build a culture where players feel trusted and motivated. This trust can often make the difference in close matches.
Franchise cricket is not just about talent but also about how players gel as a unit. Having a core group that understands each other’s game can help in tough situations on the field.
The Avengers Are Ready. Are You?
With the city of Pokhara buzzing in excitement, fans are already showing their support online with the hashtag #AvengersAssemble. After last season’s learning curve, the team is geared up to bounce back, and the retained players are at the heart of that mission.
As the countdown to NPL 2025 begins, all eyes will be on this squad. Will they dominate the field? Can they go all the way this time? One thing is certain — the Avengers are ready.
