Massive Earthquake Shakes Pacific Coasts!!! A huge 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, sending shockwaves across the Pacific. Tsunami warnings were issued for Hawaii, Japan, and parts of the U.S. West Coast, urging people to flee to safety. The quake, one of the strongest ever recorded, hit early Wednesday, causing panic as coastal residents scrambled to higher ground. In Russia’s Kuril Islands, waves up to 16 feet flooded ports, but no major injuries were reported.
Hawaii Braces for Impact
In Hawaii, tsunami sirens blared as the first waves, some reaching 6 feet, hit Kauai around 7:30 p.m. local time. Governor Josh Green urged residents to evacuate low-lying areas, warning that tsunamis can be deadly. By late Tuesday, the warning was downgraded to an advisory, but officials cautioned about strong currents. Evacuation orders lifted on Oahu, yet residents were told to avoid beaches.
Japan and Beyond Face Tsunami Threat
Japan saw waves up to 4.3 feet in northern areas like Iwate, with nearly 2 million people ordered to evacuate. Memories of the 2011 tsunami fueled swift action, though no major damage was reported. In California, waves reached Crescent City, and advisories stretched to Alaska. Countries like Ecuador and Chile also braced for potential waves. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center noted the threat could last a day.
