The cricket world was buzzing with excitement on June 19, 2025, as Nepal pulled off a stunning 6-wicket victory against the Netherlands in the Scotland T20I Tri-Series at Titwood Cricket Ground in Glasgow. With incredible teamwork, fiery energy, and some breathtaking performances, Nepal turned the game into a nail-biting spectacle that had fans on the edge of their seats. This win wasn’t just a match; it was a statement of Nepal’s growing prowess in international cricket.
The stage was set for an intense battle. The Netherlands, sitting at the top of the Tri-Series points table with two wins from three games, were the favorites going into the match. They had recently beaten Nepal in a historic clash that went to three Super Overs, making this rematch a highly anticipated showdown. Nepal, on the other hand, were coming off a gritty two-wicket win against Scotland, hungry to prove they could take on the Dutch giants.
The Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that seemed promising as they started strong. Their batsmen, led by the explosive Michael Levitt, aimed to set a challenging total. The Dutch side posted a respectable 174/7 in their 20 overs, with contributions from Max O’Dowd and Teja Nidamanuru. Nepal’s bowlers, however, kept things tight. Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, a star in the making, bowled with precision, while Karan KC and Lalit Rajbanshi chipped in to keep the Dutch from running away with the score. The fielding was electric, with Nepal’s players diving and chasing every ball, showing their commitment to the cause.
Chasing 175 was no easy task, especially against a Dutch bowling attack featuring the likes of Kyle Klein and Daniel Doram. But Nepal’s batsmen were ready to rise to the occasion. The opening pair of Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh set the tone with a solid start. Bhurtel, in particular, was a standout, smashing a brilliant half-century that came off just 11 overs. His aggressive stroke play, including crisp cover drives and lofted shots, kept the pressure on the Dutch bowlers. The crowd roared as Bhurtel found the gaps with ease, setting the foundation for Nepal’s chase.
However, the Netherlands fought back. Nepal’s captain, Rohit Paudel, fell in the 12th over, leaving the team needing 78 runs from 52 balls. The tension was palpable, but Nepal’s middle order held their nerve. Lokesh Bam, walking in with the game hanging in the balance, turned the tide with a fearless performance. With seven runs needed off the final over, Bam smashed a towering six off the first ball, sending the Nepali fans into a frenzy. He wasn’t done yet—another six off the fourth ball sealed the deal with two balls to spare. Nepal finished at 180/4 in 19.4 overs, clinching a memorable 6-wicket victory.
The victory was a true team effort. While Bhurtel’s half-century laid the groundwork, Bam’s explosive finish stole the show. Aasif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee also played crucial roles, ensuring Nepal stayed on track during the chase. On the bowling front, Sandeep Lamichhane’s disciplined spell kept the Netherlands in check, proving once again why he’s a key player for Nepal. The fielders, with their relentless energy, saved crucial runs and created pressure that led to mistakes from the Dutch batsmen.
This win was more than just a game for Nepal. It was a moment of pride for a nation passionate about cricket. Fans took to social media to celebrate, with posts flooding in about the team’s spirit and determination. One fan wrote, “Fantastic victory for Nepal against the Netherlands by 6 wickets. We keep dreaming, we keep marching.” Another called it a “proper T20” that showcased Nepal’s potential on the global stage.
The match also highlighted Nepal’s growth as a cricketing nation. Facing a strong side like the Netherlands, which had previously beaten them in a dramatic Super Over clash, Nepal showed they could adapt and overcome. The team’s ability to stay calm under pressure and execute their plans with precision was a testament to their hard work and preparation. Coach Monty Desai’s strategies were evident in the way the team balanced aggression with smart decision-making.
For the Netherlands, it was a tough day. Despite their strong batting effort and moments of brilliance from their bowlers, they couldn’t contain Nepal’s fiery chase. Michael Levitt’s form remained positive, but the Dutch will look to bounce back in their next game. With the Tri-Series still open, this loss keeps the competition alive, setting the stage for an exciting finale.
Nepal’s next challenge is against Scotland on June 20, 2025, at Hamilton Crescent in Glasgow. A win there could put them in contention for the Tri-Series title, depending on other results. The team’s confidence is sky-high, and with players like Bhurtel, Bam, and Lamichhane firing on all cylinders, Nepal is ready to keep the momentum going.
This victory wasn’t just about runs and wickets; it was about heart, grit, and the unyielding spirit of a team that refuses to back down. Nepal’s cricketers have shown the world they’re here to compete, and their fans couldn’t be prouder. As the Tri-Series continues, all eyes will be on this dynamic team to see how far they can go.
