In a major victory for Koshi Province Police, a gang stealing electric transformers has been caught. The police arrested 7 individuals who stole transformers and 5 buyers who purchased the stolen copper and parts. This happened in Morang, Sunsari, and Jhapa districts in eastern Nepal. The arrests were announced by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ishwar Karki during a press conference.

The Koshi Province Police worked hard to stop these thefts. They used sting operations, checked CCTV surveillance, and searched scrap yards to find the culprits. The police found over 370 kg of copper, tools used for stealing, vehicles, and 12 mobile phones. One of the arrested people is Alam Miya, an Indian national, along with several owners of scrap and utensil shops.

This gang was linked to stealing 22 transformers, which caused big power outages in many areas. Transformers are important because they help send electricity to homes and businesses. When they are stolen, people lose power, and it can take a long time to fix.

DIG Ishwar Karki said the police started investigating after reports of more transformer thefts in the three districts. They watched videos from cameras and checked places where copper might be sold, like scrap yards. This helped them catch the thieves and the people buying the stolen items.

The Koshi Province Police said this is a strong message to anyone trying to steal important equipment. Stealing electric transformers hurts communities by leaving them without electricity. The police will keep working to stop these crimes and protect Nepal’s infrastructure.

This crackdown shows how important it is to keep public equipment safe. The Koshi Province Police are now looking for other possible thieves to make sure no more power outages happen because of theft. People in Morang, Sunsari, and Jhapa are happy to hear the police are taking action to keep their electricity safe.
