The CPN-UML, a major political party in Nepal, has decided that former President Bidya Devi Bhandari cannot return to active politics. The party says it’s not right for someone who was once the head of the country to join partisan politics, which means taking sides with one political group. This decision was made during a Central Committee meeting led by CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

In the meeting, Oli suggested not renewing Bhandari’s party membership, which means she cannot officially be part of CPN-UML’s activities. The party believes that a former president should stay above politics to keep the role special and respected. Bhandari was Nepal’s president from 2015 to 2023, and she wanted to come back to politics to help her party. But CPN-UML thinks this could cause problems for how people see the president’s role.

At the same time, the Central Committee made another big decision. They agreed to change rules so KP Sharma Oli can stay as the party’s leader for longer. Before, there were rules saying leaders had to be under 70 years old and could only lead for two terms. These rules have now been removed, so Oli, who is 74, can continue leading CPN-UML. This change makes it easier for Oli to stay in charge without anyone challenging him soon.

Bhandari had been a big part of CPN-UML before becoming president. She even thought about leading the party years ago. But now, the party’s decision stops her from coming back to politics with them. Some people in the party agree with Oli, saying it’s important to follow the country’s rules about presidents. Others think Bhandari should be allowed to help the party because she has a lot of experience.

This news shows how CPN-UML is trying to balance respect for past leaders like Bhandari with keeping Oli as their main leader. It also affects Nepal’s politics, as the party prepares for future elections and works on goals like better digital governance, which means using technology to make the government work better for everyone.
