Binod Poudel’s Inspiring Journey with Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi and Abhimanyu

In the vibrant world of Nepali cinema, Binod Poudel shines as a dedicated producer. His passion has brought heartfelt stories to life, with Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi (2024) redefining success in Nepali films. Now, as a producer, he’s gearing up for his next big project, Abhimanyu. This is the story of a man whose love for storytelling is transforming Nepali cinema.

The Visionary Producer: Binod Poudel

Binod Poudel is not just a producer; he’s a dreamer from Nepal’s hills, inspired by tales of resilience. From a young age, he saw cinema as a way to share Nepal’s rich culture. Despite challenges like limited budgets and competition from foreign films, Binod’s commitment to authentic stories led him to produce Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi, a film that changed Nepali cinema forever.

Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi: A Producer’s Triumph

Released on October 31, 2024, during Tihar’s Lakshmi Puja, Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi is a masterpiece directed by Saroj Poudel and written by Mahesh Dawadi. It follows Purna Bahadur, a father from the marginalized Gandharva community, who plays the sarangi to support his family. His dream is to give his son, Kanchha, a better life through education.

The film is a touching tale of love and sacrifice. Purna faces poverty, discrimination, and tension with his wife, Batuli, yet his bond with Kanchha, played by Bijay Baral and Prakash Saput, shines through. Every scene feels real, immersing audiences in the Gandharva community’s world.

As producer, Binod Poudel, took a bold risk under Seven Seas Cinema. Casting Bijay Baral as the lead and focusing on a lesser-known community was daring, but Binod believed in the story’s power. His producer role ensured the film’s music and rural settings felt authentic, bringing the vision to life.

The result? Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi became Nepal’s highest-grossing film, earning over NPR 75 crore worldwide. It set records, including NPR 3.89 crore in a single day. Audiences were moved to tears, and though some critics noted its melodrama, the love for Sarangi made it a cultural milestone.

Binod, as producer, expressed his gratitude to Nepal360 News: “We thank the audience for embracing our film, rooted in village life, both in Nepal and abroad.” His work as a producer highlighted the Gandharva community’s struggles and music.

Overcoming Challenges as a Producer

Producing Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi wasn’t easy. A plagiarism controversy arose when Dr. Shiva Shankar Basyal claimed similarities with his novel Sangrampur. Binod, as producer, stood firm with his team, noting the story drew from real-life struggles and Saroj Poudel’s personal loss. His leadership as a producer kept the project on track. He traveled Nepal to thank fans, connecting with those touched by the film.

The success of Sarangi showed that Nepali films don’t need big stars—just a great story and a passionate producer like Binod.

The Next Chapter: Producing Abhimanyu

After Sarangi’s triumph, Binod Poudel, as producer, is ready for Abhimanyu. This upcoming Nepali movie is generating excitement. Though details are scarce, Abhimanyu is expected to explore themes of courage and sacrifice, inspired by the Mahabharata’s legendary figure. Fans wonder if Binod will reunite with Saroj Poudel or bring new talent to his producer role.

As producer, Binod is also working on Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi 2, focusing on a mother’s sacrifices. This sequel promises to carry the emotional weight of the original, keeping fans eager for more.

Binod’s Vision as a Producer for Nepali Cinema

Binod Poudel’s journey as a producer is about strengthening Nepali cinema. He believes in stories that reflect real struggles, from family joys to social issues. His work as a producer has inspired filmmakers to take risks, as noted by Rajan Kathet in The Kathmandu Post.

For Binod, every film he produces is a chance to connect with audiences and showcase Nepal globally. With Sarangi’s international success, his dream of Nepali films reaching the world is within reach.

A Producer’s Message of Hope

Binod Poudel’s story as a producer is one of hard work and love for Nepal. From humble beginnings to record-breaking films, he shows that dreams can come true. Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi and Abhimanyu are more than movies—they’re proof that a producer’s vision can change lives.

As Binod continues to shape Nepali cinema as a producer, he reminds us to hold on to hope, just like Purna Bahadur with his sarangi. The future of Nepali films is bright, and Binod Poudel is leading the way.
