KATHMANDU, Nepal – March 11, 2025 – eSewa, a super popular app that lets people in Nepal pay bills and send money online, is having a big problem. When users log in, they’re supposed to get a quick message to make sure it’s really them. This helps keep their accounts safe. But now, those messages are coming a whole day late!
Imagine someone sneaks into your account, and you don’t find out until tomorrow. That’s what’s happening with eSewa. People use it to pay for things like phone bills, electricity, and even movie tickets. But if the login alert is slow, bad guys could take money or information before anyone knows. This makes many users scared that their accounts aren’t safe anymore.
The eSewa team says it’s just a “glitch,” which is like a mistake in their computer system. They’re working to fix it, but they haven’t said when it’ll be okay again. Some smart people who know about computers, called experts, are worried. They say this delay is a big deal because it gives hackers more time to cause trouble. “A day-late notification is too risky,” one expert said. “It’s like leaving your door unlocked all night.”
On top of that, eSewa stopped working for two whole hours on Monday afternoon. No one could use the app to pay or check their money during that time. This made things even worse for people who depend on eSewa every day. Some users got upset and said they’re thinking about switching to other apps like Khalti or IME Pay.
eSewa is a big deal in Nepal. It’s been around since 2009 and helps millions of people send money or buy things without cash. It’s supposed to be fast and safe, but these problems are making people wonder if they can trust it. The company says it follows strict rules from Nepal Rastra Bank, the country’s big bank, to keep users safe. But right now, that safety feels shaky.
Users are talking a lot about this on social media. One person wrote, “I didn’t know someone logged into my account until the next day. What if they took my money?” Another said, “eSewa needs to fix this fast, or I’m done with it.”
The technical team is trying hard to solve the glitch. They want users to feel safe again. But until the login messages come on time, experts say people should be extra careful. They suggest checking accounts often and making strong passwords to stay protected.
For now, eSewa users in Nepal are waiting and hoping the app gets back to normal soon. No one wants to lose their hard-earned money because of a computer problem. Will eSewa fix this fast enough to keep everyone happy? Only time will tell.
