Who would have thought that two young minds from Nepal would grab the attention of NASA, one of the most prestigious space agencies in the world? In an inspiring event that proves talent knows no boundaries, 17-year-old Aksar Ojha from Sunsari and 23-year-old Ayush Pokharel from Biratnagar received official recognition from NASA for detecting serious vulnerabilities in its official website.
This isn’t just a story about hacking—it’s a story about brilliance, ethical cybersecurity, and youthful determination that shines beyond borders.
The Discovery That Reached NASA
NASA recently acknowledged the efforts of these two Nepali ethical hackers by sending them an email of appreciation. This wasn’t just a casual thank you. NASA appreciated their role in helping the agency become more secure by identifying issues that, if left unchecked, could have been exploited by malicious hackers.
The duo discovered two major issues:
- Reflected XSS (Cross-Site Scripting): This vulnerability allows hackers to inject harmful code into a website. Once a user clicks on a manipulated link, attackers can gain access to their browser or steal their passwords and sensitive data.
- Redirection Flaw: This is a loophole where users visiting the official NASA website can be silently redirected to an untrusted or malicious site without their knowledge. This could be used in phishing attacks or for spreading malware.
Both of these issues are considered serious in the cybersecurity world. Detecting such vulnerabilities in a globally respected organization like NASA is no small feat.
The Cybersecurity Journey of Aksar and Ayush
The friendship and partnership between Akshar and Ayush started about a year ago. They met while taking a six-month cybersecurity training course in Nepal. Both were passionate about technology, curious about security, and driven to explore the digital world in a responsible way.
This training not only equipped them with the technical skills required to analyze websites for weaknesses but also taught them the ethics of hacking — that it should always be used to protect, not harm. Known as ethical hackers, these individuals help organizations by pointing out their security flaws so they can be fixed before real damage occurs.
What sets their story apart is their age and origin. Coming from smaller cities in Nepal, far from global tech hubs, they’ve shown the world that talent and passion matter more than geography.
Recognition from NASA: A Rare Achievement
When NASA replied to their findings, they were surprised and thrilled. Getting a direct response from one of the most secure and advanced space agencies in the world is not something that happens every day, especially for young cybersecurity students from Nepal.
The acknowledgment email not only praised their work but also showed how organizations like NASA are open to receiving help from the global community, including from passionate youth who want to make a difference.
This form of recognition acts as a badge of honor in the cybersecurity world and can open many doors in the future for Aksar and Ayush.
Future Plans and Global Dreams
After their success with NASA, both hackers are looking forward to advancing their skills further. Ayush has already traveled to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education in cybersecurity, while Aksar is planning to follow the same path very soon.
Their shared goal is to become world-class cybersecurity experts. They believe in using their skills not just to help big organizations like NASA but also to raise awareness about cybersecurity back home in Nepal.
Ethical Hacking: A Career with Purpose
The term “hacker” often brings negative images to mind — of stolen data, viruses, and online theft. But there’s another side to hacking — the ethical side, where skilled individuals use their knowledge to prevent cybercrimes rather than commit them.
Aksar and Ayush are perfect examples of this new generation of ethical hackers. They are driven not by money or fame but by a genuine desire to improve systems and make the internet a safer place for everyone.
With cyber threats rising globally, every organization—from government bodies to private companies—is now investing heavily in cybersecurity. And there’s a growing demand for ethical hackers who can find and report problems before cybercriminals do.
A Message for Aspiring Hackers
Their story is already inspiring many young minds in Nepal and beyond. Aksar and Ayush prove that you don’t need to be from a big country or an elite institution to make a difference. All you need is passion, learning, and integrity.
If you are interested in technology, coding, and solving digital puzzles, ethical hacking can be a path to explore. Start small, learn the basics of how the web works, take a course like they did, and most importantly, always use your knowledge ethically.
