Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has praised the bold campaign of Nawaraj Bohara, who walked barefoot for 31 days from Surkhet to Kathmandu. His long and difficult journey aimed to raise awareness about good governance, development, and corruption in Karnali Province—one of the least developed areas in Nepal.
The prime minister welcomed Bohara to his official residence in Baluwatar, where he applauded the spirit, courage, and message of the campaign. “Your voice matters. Your peaceful protest for a better Karnali is strong and meaningful,” said PM Oli.
A Walk for Change
Nawaraj Bohara, a social activist from Surkhet, started his barefoot walk with no shoes, umbrella, or modern gadgets. Walking under the hot sun and through rain, he reached Kathmandu after 31 days, carrying just one message: “Karnali Deserves Better.”
Speaking at a small press gathering, Bohara said:
“I walked not for myself, but for the people of Karnali. We have waited too long for change. We need roads, schools, hospitals, and jobs. But above all, we need honesty and care for the environment.”
His walk drew attention across social media, radio stations, and even local schools. Children and youth joined him on parts of his journey, sharing his call for eco-friendly development and anti-corruption action.
Focus on Good Governance
One of the main focus keywords of Bohara’s message is good governance. He explained that in many places, government money meant for roads, drinking water, or health posts disappears due to corruption.
“Corruption is like a disease in Karnali,” Bohara said. “If we don’t stop it now, our future will be dark.”
Prime Minister Oli agreed that transparency and reform are needed in all provinces, including Karnali. He assured Bohara that the federal government is committed to improving services, tracking funds, and holding officials accountable.
Green and Eco-Friendly Growth
Bohara didn’t just talk about roads and schools—he talked about the environment too. He said that development in Karnali must be green, clean, and people-centered.
“We don’t want to destroy forests to build roads,” he said. “Let’s make eco-friendly paths, plant trees, and keep rivers clean.”
His ideas of combining development with environmental protection impressed many, including government ministers and policy experts. “This is the vision we need for Nepal,” said one local leader.
Youth and Grassroots Support
Bohara’s campaign is not backed by any political party or big NGO. It’s a grassroots movement, started by one person and supported by ordinary people.
From Surkhet to Nepalgunj, to Butwal, and finally to Kathmandu—villagers gave him food, shelter, and blessings. School children made drawings of his walk, and teachers used his journey as a classroom lesson.
“This campaign gives hope to youth,” said Sunita Bhandari, a university student. “It tells us we can change Nepal if we try.”
PM Assures Support, Calls for National Reform
PM Oli said Bohara’s campaign should inspire all government officials. “We don’t need fancy suits to bring change—we need dedication like yours,” he told Bohara.
The Prime Minister also assured that Karnali’s problems will be brought to the cabinet’s attention. Plans will be made to improve infrastructure, create jobs, and launch strict anti-corruption laws.
Bohara to Continue Campaign in Karnali
Though he completed his walk, Nawaraj Bohara’s journey is far from over. He says he will now return to Karnali to meet more people, gather suggestions, and keep pushing the government.
“I will not stop until we see real change,” he said. “Let’s rise together for a better Karnali.”
Bohara also asked the media to keep reporting on people’s voices, and not just politicians. “The real leaders are in villages,” he added.
A Movement of Hope
Bohara’s 31-day barefoot journey from Surkhet to Kathmandu is more than just a walk. It’s a message of hope, courage, and responsibility. It reminds us that even one person can shake the system and light the path for change.
His focus on good governance, eco-friendly development, and anti-corruption reflects the needs of millions—not just in Karnali, but across all of Nepal.
Nawaraj Bohara’s peaceful walk is a powerful example of how ordinary citizens can push for extraordinary change. With support from the Prime Minister and growing public attention, his campaign for Karnali is no longer a one-man effort—it’s a national movement.
