Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to discuss peace talks with Ukraine, but only if Russia’s important demands are met. This news comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky showed he is willing to talk to end the fighting between the two countries. The conflict, which started in 2022, has caused much sadness and damage.
Putin wants Ukraine to agree to several things before signing any peace deal. These include Ukraine not joining NATO, a group of countries that work together for safety. Russia also wants to keep control of some areas it has taken, like Crimea. Additionally, Putin asks for limits on Ukraine’s army size and for sanctions, or punishments, against Russia to be lifted. These demands are a big challenge for Ukraine.
On the other hand, Zelensky has his own ideas for peace. He wants Russian soldiers to leave all Ukrainian land. He also asks for the return of Ukrainian children taken to Russia and for those responsible for war crimes to face justice. Zelensky believes a ceasefire, or a pause in fighting, is the first step to start serious negotiations.
Both leaders have tried talking before, with meetings in places like Istanbul, but they couldn’t agree. Putin says he wants peace but believes Zelensky must prove he is a legitimate leader through elections. Zelensky says Putin is scared to negotiate and keeps making tough demands to delay peace.
The world is watching closely. The United States and other countries are pushing for a ceasefire to stop the fighting. They hope peace talks can bring calm to the region. However, many worry that Russia’s demands might be too hard for Ukraine to accept, making peace tricky to achieve.
For now, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky are talking about talking, but they need to agree on the rules. Everyone hopes these negotiations can stop the war and bring safety back to Ukraine. The path to peace is not easy, but both sides are showing they might be ready to try.
