In a stunning turn of events, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana have gone missing shortly after being released on bail. The two prominent royalist leaders were arrested on Chaitra 15 during a large-scale protest held in Tinkune, Kathmandu. The protest, organized by RPP supporters, was in favor of reinstating Nepal as a constitutional monarchy.
Both leaders were presented before the court and released on recognizance a legal term meaning they were allowed to go without paying bail, based on trust that they would return for their court hearings. However, the story took a dramatic turn when they suddenly disappeared after their release.
Authorities and RPP members are both puzzled and concerned. According to reports, the court had trusted the leaders to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. But now, with no sign of either Mishra or Rana, tensions are rising.
Adding more pressure to the situation, the court has penalized both of their lawyers with fines of Rs 50,000 each. The court believes the lawyers failed in their duty to ensure that their clients complied with the conditions of the recognizance release. Legal experts say this is a rare and serious move, as it reflects the court’s frustration over what seems like an attempt to evade justice.
The Kathmandu District Police Office confirmed that the two leaders are officially missing, and a search operation is underway. Their last known location was near the court premises, but since then, there has been no public appearance or communication. Police have also started questioning close aides and party members to gather any clues about their whereabouts.
The RPP has remained mostly silent on the issue, sparking speculation within political circles and on social media. Some supporters claim this might be a strategic political move, while critics believe it shows irresponsibility from party leadership.
Rabindra Mishra, a former journalist turned politician, and Dhawal Shamsher Rana, a respected figure in the party, both have significant followings. Their disappearance is being viewed as more than just a legal matter it is becoming a political drama with wide-reaching implications.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked law enforcement agencies to remain alert and act quickly. Security has been tightened at major exit points, including Tribhuvan International Airport and border areas.
This incident has added fuel to the ongoing debate about Nepal’s political stability, the role of monarchy in the country, and the trustworthiness of political leaders in high-profile positions.
