It started like a normal day in Kathmandu. But suddenly, everything changed when Kamal Thapa, a top leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), was arrested. People were shocked. The streets got louder. The RPP quickly warned the government of a nationwide protest.
This article explains everything about the arrest, the strong reaction from RPP, and what might happen next. We will also share what Rajendra Lingden said, how the party is planning protests, and why this matters for Nepal in 2025.
Kamal Thapa Arrest Shocks the Nation
Kamal Thapa was arrested in Kathmandu on Thursday morning. Police have not clearly said why. The RPP says the arrest is unfair and political. Many party members and supporters gathered in the city, shouting for his release.
People want answers. But the police stayed quiet. This has made many people angry, especially those who support the RPP.
RPP Protest Begins in Kathmandu
Soon after the arrest, RPP leaders called for a big protest in Kathmandu. Hundreds of people joined the rally. They shouted, held signs, and asked the government, “Why arrest Kamal Thapa?”
Streets were blocked. Shops were closed. Buses stopped moving. It felt like the whole city paused. The RPP called this the start of a bigger protest.
The protest is not only in Kathmandu. Now, RPP says they will take it nationwide if Kamal Thapa is not freed soon.
Rajendra Lingden Gives Strong Message
RPP President Rajendra Lingden gave a speech right after the arrest. He was very clear. Rajendra Lingden said “The government has crossed a line. If Kamal Thapa is not released, we will bring Nepal to a standstill.”
He also said that the arrest was a plan to stop RPP from rising in politics. Many people in the crowd clapped and shouted in support.
Later, he posted on social media: Lingden wrote “This is not just about one person. This is about our rights and democracy.”
Political Unrest Growing in Nepal
The year 2025 is already tense for Nepal’s politics. Many parties are fighting. There are big talks about the future of the country. But now, this arrest has made things worse.
People are asking, “Is Nepal still a free country?”
Some leaders from other parties also shared their views. One opposition leader shared “Even if we don’t agree with Kamal Thapa, this arrest is wrong.”
Many students and workers have also joined the RPP’s voice. They believe this is a bigger problem about freedom in Nepal.
Kathmandu Bandh News: What’s Happening Now?
After the arrest, RPP called for a Kathmandu bandh, which means closing down the city. Schools shut down. Shops didn’t open. Roads were blocked with tires and flags.
Police tried to stop some groups, but the protest continued. No major violence was reported, but the tension was high. People worry it could grow if Kamal Thapa is not released soon.
News reporters in Kathmandu are saying the bandh might spread to other cities. If the government doesn’t act, the whole country might shut down.
RPP Demands Kamal Thapa's Release
The RPP has one clear demand: Release Kamal Thapa now. They say they will keep protesting until this happens. Their leaders are visiting cities, asking more people to join.
If this continues, Nepal could face a big political crisis. The RPP wants the public to stand with them. They say they are not just fighting for a leader, but for all citizens.
In the party’s press meet, they clearly stated:
“This arrest shows the government fears us. But we won’t stop. We want justice.”
Lingden’s Final Warning to Nepal Government
Rajendra Lingden gave one final warning:
“If Kamal Thapa is not freed, we will make this a historic movement.”
He said the party is ready to face anything. Trucks with speakers are moving in villages and cities, telling people to rise up.
The RPP also told people to stay peaceful but firm. They don’t want violence. They want change.
What Happens Next?
Nobody knows what will happen next. Will the government free Kamal Thapa? Or will they wait? Either way, the RPP is getting stronger. Their voice is now louder than ever.
The coming days are important for Nepal’s politics in 2025. The people are watching. And the world is watching too.
