🙏 The Only Man Who Survived the Air India Crash
On June 12, 2025, an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, India. The plane was going to London Gatwick Airport. The flight was called AI171. There were 242 people on the plane, but only one person survived.
This man’s name is Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. His story is both heartbreaking and full of hope. Let us learn more about him and how he lived through one of India’s worst air disasters.
✈️ Flight AI171: A Regular Day Turned Tragic
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1:38 PM. Everything seemed normal at first. The plane started climbing into the sky.
But just a few seconds later, it began to shake. Then it fell quickly from the sky and crashed into a medical college building near Meghani Nagar. The plane burst into flames. People nearby saw black smoke, heard a loud boom, and ran for safety.
241 people died, including everyone else on the plane and many people on the ground. But one man lived.
🧍♂️ Who Is the Only Survivor?
The only person who survived the crash is Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 32-year-old man from Pune, Maharashtra. He was sitting in seat 11A on the left side of the plane.
Doctors say it is a miracle that he lived. His seat was near the middle of the plane, and somehow, he was thrown clear during the crash and landed in a soft area near a tree. Though he was badly hurt, he was still breathing when rescuers found him.
🩺 What Happened to Him?
After the crash, emergency workers rushed to the scene. They were surprised to find someone alive. Vishwash was covered in dust and burns, but he was awake.
He was taken to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where he was treated for broken bones, burns, and shock. Doctors said he kept asking, “What happened? Where is everyone?”
He did not know at first that he was the only one to survive. When told, he cried and stayed silent for hours.
💼 Why Was Vishwash on the Flight?
Vishwash works for a software company in Pune. He was flying to London for a new job and was very excited. He had never flown on a big airplane like this before.
His family had come to the airport to say goodbye. Now, they are thankful but also deeply sad knowing how many others were not as lucky.
💬 What Did He Say After the Crash?
After waking up in the hospital, Vishwash shared a few words:
“I remember people were talking happily. Then, there was a loud sound and shaking. I closed my eyes and prayed. After that, I don’t remember anything… I woke up on the ground with fire around me. I don’t know how I lived.”
⚠️ How Did He Survive? Experts Explain
Plane crash experts say many small things may have helped Vishwash survive:
His seat was near the middle, not in the front or back.
He may have been shielded by the plane’s structure.
He landed on soft ground that stopped further injury.
Fast rescue efforts helped him get medical care quickly.
They also say that seatbelts and airplane design may have helped too.
🛡️ How Is He Now?
Vishwash is still in the hospital. Doctors say he is getting better but will need weeks to heal. He also needs emotional support, as surviving such a tragedy is very hard.
The Indian government and Air India are giving him help. He is getting counseling and care around the clock.
🕊️ How Is He Honoring Others Who Died?
Vishwash says he wants to live a life that honors those who did not survive. He plans to meet the families of victims, attend memorial services, and help others who are suffering.
“I want to do something good with my second chance,” he said.
He hopes to help teach people about air safety and support families in need.
