Rushing waters, shattered lives. A devastating flash flood tore through the Lende River in Rasuwa, Nepal, on July 8, 2025, sweeping away 20 people. The Armed Police Force reported the tragedy, which struck the Nepal-China border area, causing widespread destruction. The flood, suspected to be triggered by a glacial lake outburst in Tibet, washed away the Miteri Bridge, vehicles, and parts of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project. Rescue teams are racing against time to locate those missing, but hope is fading fast.
Destruction in the dark. The flood hit around 3 a.m., catching residents off guard. Five bodies or body parts have been recovered, found along the Trishuli River, but their identities remain unconfirmed. The Nepal Army and locals are working together, using helicopters to search the rugged terrain. Adverse weather is making rescue operations challenging, with damaged roads blocking access to the affected areas. The disaster has also disrupted the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung trade route, impacting Nepal’s economy ahead of the festive season.
A community in mourning. The flash flood has left Rasuwa reeling, with families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones. Security personnel and volunteers continue their tireless efforts, combing the riverbanks for survivors. The destruction of infrastructure, including the customs yard and electric vehicles, has added to the region’s woes. As the search continues, the people of Rasuwa hold onto faint hope, united in their resolve to support one another through this heartbreaking tragedy.
