Imagine you build a sandcastle at the beach, and someone knocks it down. You’d think it’s gone, right? But what if some important parts, like your favorite shells, are still safe? That’s kind of what happened when the United States tried to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons. A new U.S. intelligence report says the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, including a place called Fordo, didn’t destroy everything. Let’s break it down in a way that’s easy to understand.
What Are These Airstrikes?
On June 22, 2025, the U.S. military sent planes and missiles to attack three special places in Iran: Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. These are like secret factories where Iran works on nuclear capabilities, which could be used to make dangerous weapons. President Donald Trump said the airstrikes were a huge success. He claimed they “completely obliterated” Iran’s nuclear sites, meaning they were totally destroyed.
But the U.S. intelligence report, made by a group called the Defense Intelligence Agency, says that’s not true. It’s like saying your sandcastle is gone, but someone finds your shells still there. The report says the airstrikes only damaged some parts of the nuclear sites and set Iran’s work back by a few months, not years.
What’s Still Safe in Iran?
The intelligence report found that two super important things weren’t destroyed: enriched uranium and centrifuges. Let’s explain those big words:
Enriched uranium is like the special fuel needed to make a nuclear weapon. It’s super hard to make, so keeping it safe is a big deal for Iran.
Centrifuges are machines that spin really fast to make that fuel. They’re like the tools Iran needs to keep working on its nuclear capabilities.
The report says the airstrikes sealed off entrances to some buildings at Fordo and other nuclear sites, but the underground rooms where the enriched uranium and centrifuges are kept were not harmed. It’s like locking the door to your toy room but leaving all your toys safe inside.
Why Does This Matter?
If Iran still has enriched uranium and centrifuges, it might be able to start working on nuclear capabilities again soon. Experts, who are like super-smart teachers about weapons, are worried. They say Iran could rebuild its nuclear sites in just a few months. This could mean Iran might still try to make a nuclear weapon, which could be dangerous for the world.
What Did Trump and the White House Say?
President Trump didn’t agree with the U.S. intelligence report. He said it was “inconclusive,” which means it’s not clear enough to trust. His team at the White House went even further. They called the report “flat-out wrong” and said someone who didn’t like Trump leaked it to cause trouble. Trump believes the airstrikes did a lot more damage than the report says, comparing them to a huge event at the end of World War Two.
What About Other People?
The CIA, another group that helps keep America safe, hasn’t said anything about the report yet. Neither have officials from Israel, a country that also worries about Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Israel’s leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, said the airstrikes hurt Iran’s program a lot, but he didn’t say it was totally destroyed.
Some experts think Iran might have moved its enriched uranium to a secret place before the airstrikes happened. Satellite pictures showed trucks and bulldozers at Fordo a few days before the attack, which makes people wonder if Iran hid its important stuff.
What Happens Next?
The U.S. intelligence report has caused a big argument. Trump wants to talk with Iran next week to make a deal that stops them from making nuclear capabilities. But Iran says it has the right to keep working on its nuclear sites for peaceful reasons, like making energy. The world is watching to see what happens, because keeping everyone safe is really important.
This news also makes people ask questions. Can we trust what leaders say about big events like airstrikes? How do we know if Iran’s nuclear sites are really safe or not? And what can the world do to make sure no one makes dangerous weapons?
Why Should We Care?
Even if you’re just a kid, this news matters because it’s about keeping the world peaceful. Nuclear capabilities could hurt a lot of people, so countries like the U.S. and Iran need to work together to stay safe. The U.S. intelligence report helps us understand what’s really going on, even when leaders disagree.
For now, the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites didn’t do as much as Trump hoped. The Fordo site and others are damaged but not gone. With enriched uranium and centrifuges still safe, Iran might keep trying to build its nuclear capabilities. Everyone hopes leaders can find a way to solve this problem without more fighting.
